Each year, CEDEPCA publishes an Advent Devotional Guide and distributes it widely to friends and partners throughout Latin America, the United States, and Canada. For this Advent season, we have chosen to shine light on the theme of migration — an urgent matter facing all of our countries, with basic human rights at stake. With this guide, Walking in the Light of God, we hope people will talk candidly around their dinner tables and in small groups about the intersections of migration and the hope of Advent — and then take action in their everyday lives to work for peace.
In March, CEDEPCA’s Intercultural Encounters Team participated in the newly formed Mesoamerican Mission and Migration Network in El Salvador, making connections with leaders in migration ministries from throughout Central and North America. Several members of that network graciously contributed the Advent reflections for Walking in the Light of God: Teresita Matos-Post in Florida, Cruz Calles in El Salvador, Mark Adams at the Mexico-U.S. border, and Dori Hjalmarson in Honduras. The final reflection is written by Karen Gonzalez Tally, author of The God Who Sees: Immigrants, the Bible, and the Journey to Belong.
The devotional is available in both Spanish (Adviento2024-) and English (ADVENT2024-) , and both are attached. We ask for your help in distributing this resource far and wide! We also hope that it is a source of inspiration for you personally during the upcoming Advent season.
